Energy From Waste Facility

Statement from Kris Hopkins

A number of constituents and others have contacted me and my office over recent weeks regarding the proposed Energy from Waste facility  at Marley.

I do understand many of the concerns raised.

Tackling drugs in Keighley

I have been approached by a number of residents and businesses in Keighley asking me to look at the drugs issues in the area.

In October I sent out over 4,500 surveys to residents in Keighley Central, asking them to let me know their concerns and experiences.

Delivering job opportunities

I'm working hard to deliver jobs and apprenticeship schemes in our area; helping people get the skills they need to succeed. Although both youth unemployment and general unemployment in the Keighley area is falling and is lower than when I was elected to Parliament, that’s no consolation to those who are seeking work.

Pedestrian Bridge for Steeton and Silsden

I am delighted to be launching a petition today calling for the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over the A629 dual carriageway to link the communities of Steeton and Silsden.

Superfast broadband

I’m delighted that many more families and businesses in Keighley and Ilkley are benefitting from the Conservative’s investment in superfast broadband. Figures show that thanks to this investment, across West Yorkshire 40,231 premises have access to superfast broadband and by 2017 a total of 4,394 homes and businesses in Keighley and Ilkley will have access to superfast connections, who would otherwise have had to suffer from a slow, unreliable internet.

Cutting taxes

Part of my plan for Keighley and Ilkley is to make sure you keep more of your hard earned money to spend on the things that matter to you.

Tackling Violent Crime

My plan is to make Keighley and Ilkley the best places to live, work and raise a family. Tackling violent crime and safeguarding the vulnerable in our community is a key part of it. And our hard work is paying off. Crime is down by 21% in West Yorkshire thanks to our action plan and the hard work of police officers. Families are safer now that criminal damage is down by 36% in our area since 2010.
